Welcome to the Boston Globe's 2015 Golden Globes liveblog! My name's Maura Johnston, and I'm a writer for BostonGlobe.com. I'm starting slowly, watching E!'s pregame show, which has apparently turned into a RED CARPET CONTEST, judging by the chatter of Kelly Osbourne. America's Most Employed Man Ryan Seacrest is chatting about babies with Rosamund Pike. Also apparently bare midriffs are a trend!

Ryan Seacrest has switched things up: He's wearing HIS OWN FASHION LINE instead of Burberry. Add that job to his list!

It is kind of impressive how much content has grown to fill the Internet's infinite space. Did you ever foresee a manicure cam when you watched awards shows back in the single-screen viewing days?

Bill Hader is talking to Giuliana Rancic and it marks the second time Richard Grieco has come up in my pop-culture stream this week. (Here's the first.

Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts are now chatting with Seacrest. Blondes in yellow! A very good look!

Lena Dunham is complaining about Twitter. 2015, everybody.
maura johnston 1/11/2015 11:43:45 PM
Also can someone tell Lena Dunham that Tweetbot is an excellent Twitter client with a host of very robust mute functions? Thanks.

Amy Poehler: POCKETS IN HER STELLA MCCARTNEY DRESS. This lady, she is my kind of lady.

At some point during a red carpet show you become so attuned to the rhythms that you start noticing things like "nail trends." This is where I am headed right now, and let me tell you: There's lots of nude polish on the red carpet, on hands and on feet! Which is pretty smart because when it inevitably chips you're like, "Ha, YOU CAN'T EVEN TELL!" Well, I mean, you can, but the casual outside observer it's much less noticeable than, say, blue glitter polish that has chipped. (Cough.)
maura johnston 1/11/2015 11:48:57 PM
Jessica Chastain bucking the nude polish trend with a very dark nail shade. No fear!
maura johnston 1/11/2015 11:51:00 PM
Okay. Time to switch the channel to NBC for the real live action. Thanks Ryan, Giuliana, and all your cameras!

Why does this McDonald's ad look like Snapchat's iconography.

Tina Fey opens the night calling the audience brats.

Lots of mockery of "The Interview" to open the show.

"'Boyhood' proves there are still great roles for women over 40 as long as they get those roles when they're under 40."

Wes Anderson getting a nice ovation, maybe the loudest yet during the Poehler/Fey monologue slash roll call?

I can't figure out how to describe the reaction to the Fey-Poehler Bill Cosby joke. A staggered moan? A low roar?
maura johnston 1/12/2015 1:10:49 AM
Also probably worth noting that Tina Fey is no stranger to Cosby jokes: www.slate.com

Aw. JK Simmons wins the Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in "Whiplash"! He's so gruff!

Simmons shouts out Miles Teller, in whose forthcoming movie about the RI boxer Vinny Paz I had the pleasure of serving as background: www.bostonglobe.com

Well, Dakota Johnson's blankness will make her a perfect fit for the role of the "50 Shades Of Grey" lady.

A "Downton Abbey" acting win and a commercial break! What are you wearing? Now's your big chance to share!

"Here are the nominees for, uh, you know..."
maura johnston 1/12/2015 1:22:22 AM
"Fargo" wins Best TV Miniseries, a ridiculously stacked category. Judging by the paths the winners are taking to the stage it doesn't look expected.
maura johnston 1/12/2015 1:23:44 AM
Best Mini/TV Movie Actor winner Billy Bob Thornton talks about saying controversial things, continuing tonight's retro theme.
maura johnston 1/12/2015 1:27:28 AM
Can we talk about how the Cumberland Farms/Dunkin coffee rivalry is getting really real? So many attack ads!

Who was that hopping man trying to insert himself into the Michael Keaton-shot Meryl Streep/"Movies Wow" contributor shot?

Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson wins Best Original Score for "The Theory Of Everything." (I'm a "Birdman" partisan myself. More drums!)
